Social Marketing Explained

by Justin Harrison

Social marketing is a part of the Web 2.0 development that uses social networking sites and blogs to market your product or business on the world wide web. This kind of advertising makes for a more personal connection between you and your customers.

Transparently pushy advertisements have no place in social marketing. An advertisement that is perceived as being too aggressive will very likely turn readers in the opposite direction. Your goal should be creating the perception that you are an expert in your field so that potential buyers will have comfort in the relationship they’d like to create with you. Having trust in this regard is very important, it should seem more like you are having a conversation online instead of a shouting match. The audience you target will come in if the words are right. This all is made even easier with social commentary sites such as YouTube and MySpace where the community is everything.

When you start a business, the first thing you need to really think about is, what product or service is needed. And once you figure that out, then you can tailor your product or service to the needs of the public. And then you can figure out how to market it. And make sure you start a web page and come up with an idea that will really catch people’s attention.

Do some research and look for people who have blogs and then talk to them, tell them what your product/service is. And be honest and tell them all about it. If the blogger is interested then they will be willing to help you and before you know it, you will start to see a lot of people on your site and you will have a lot of business.

Due to the fact that the goal of many marketing campaigns is to improve sales, this is something important to consider when it comes to social marketing. Even though social media interactions don’t commonly generate sales they do provide a way to develop a positive relationship with customers and provide brand awareness which can generate more sales in the long run.

Since social marketing only costs you your time, a single sale is a good return on your investment. If you have limited means, using a social media could be the best way to market your product due to the low cost of their services.

Lastly, social marketing perhaps offers its biggest advantage in it being “do it yourself” without any need for outsourcing. A computer literate individual with an internet connection can leverage the multitude of social networking sites available to market a product or service.

Article Writing for Beginners

by Jan Shimano

Does the thought of writing articles that millions of people could read over the Internet intimidate you? If your answer was ‘yes’, then I can assure you, you have lots of company.

A number of things hold people back from even attempting to write their first article. To begin with, they are not sure about their subject matter. Some people write strictly for pleasure and for them they would write about those things that they were passionate about and that interested them the most. However, many people wish to have their articles published to help them generate leads for their business. If that is the case, they would want their article to be able to easily relate back to their business and their website.

A stumbling block for many is the feeling that they just don’t have enough material. This is probably the easiest hurdle to overcome. If you just Google search your subject, you will come up with thousands of postings dealing with that very subject. I suggest you read quite a few of these postings to get a general idea as to where you would like to go with your particular article. A word of warning here though…..it goes without saying, that you would not copy another persons material.

There is nothing under the sun that has not been written about before. Nobody holds a patent on their thoughts and ideas, so you can get as many ideas from other people as you think you need. Even though many people might have the same or similar ideas, you will find that each person expresses them in a unique way. The very things I am writing about here in this article have been written, I am sure, hundreds of times before. However, no one has expressed them in the same way that I have. If you can get over this particular stumbling block, you will be well on your way to completing your first article.

You will find that the article directories recommend that your article be between 400 – 600 words. I can assure you that this is nothing like writing a book…..well, perhaps one page of a book!! You are not going to get writers block while writing a short 400 – 600 word article. In fact, what I have found is that sometimes my articles has ended up being too long, and I have had to cut them back.

The very first paragraph has to grab the reader’s attention. You want good content throughout your article. However, the reader is liable to scan through the middle portion of it. They will then invariably jump to the last paragraph and it is here that you have to wrap everything up neatly for them. Try to write in the same manner that you speak as you want the reader to see your personality pop off the page. Some people outsource their articles, because of their fear of writing themselves. However, there can be no consistent personality coming through when you are using numerous writers.
