Paris Hilton CNN Interview

What in the world does Paris Hilton have to do with Politics?

Well for now, nothing. At least we think nothing. The way candidates are lining up for the Election 2008 campaigns for President we wouldn’t be too surprised if “Paris for President” bumper stickers started to pop up from coast to coast.

That is if her stay in jail doesn’t disqualify her. I’m not sure what her final charges were. She wasn’t too pleased to be escorted back to jail after first being released. Paris may have said a few choice words that added to her charges.

Paris probably thinks the jail parties don’t rock without alcohol or drugs being served.

I have to say that while I’m not always overly fond of the way she goes about getting attention I do admire the smarts and business sense of Paris. At only 26 years old she is one of the premiere promoters in the world.

Paris Hilton and Donald Trump have a lot in common in knowing how to get their name out in front of the public and in keeping it there.

I especially admire Paris for not sitting back and living in luxury as her heiress background would easily let her do. No, the easy life is not for Paris Hilton. While she is well known for playing hard you can bet she works hard too.

So what’s next for Paris?

Well, there is a rumor going around that Paris indeed is considering running for President of the United States by creating a new party, The Fun Party.

Don’t laugh. I bet Paris would get a bunch of votes. Everyone likes to have fun.

Made in Taiwan

In the 1990’s I lived and worked in Taiwan for a total of six years. I worked very hard in Taipei for an American /  Taiwanese joint venture company. While we all worked long hours, which is perfectly normal in Taiwan, my Taiwanese friends made sure that I took time to join them in the evenings to have a lot of fun.

I learned to drink Hennessy XO Cognac before, during, and after dinner. I don’t think that the Taiwanese care very much about drinking water.

I was totally impressed by the Taiwanese work ethic, their determination to be best at whatever they set out to do, their respect for education, and their ability to go out for a night of fun after working a ten to twelve hour day.

I was always wondering when these people sleep, or at times even if they do.

Taiwan is a small island. Technically, in most nations view, Taiwan isn’t a nation at all as it has long been claimed by China as a breakaway province that one day will return to Chinese rule.

With the Chinese becoming more powerful in world affairs who will defend Taiwan’s right to self rule?  Probably, in spite of defense assurances by the US and others, no one. If the going gets tough the Taiwanese are likely going to be left on their own to defend themselves.

Whatever the eventual outcome of this long standing dispute with China the 23 million Taiwanese have accomplished much. They are world leaders in technology and high tech manufacturing. An astonishing two thirds of the world’s notebooks are made in Taiwan.

How has a relatively small number of people living in crowded conditions on a relatively small island been able to accomplish these achievements?
