Admiral William Fallon, Commander of United States Central Command, resigns. Once again a talented career officer who disagrees with the way the Bush mismanaged administration handles strategic matters, is forced out of office.

If you disagree with George W. Bush, and openly state conflicting positions, you had better brush up your resume or get ready for retirement. Admiral Fallon is considered by many, including Secretary of Defense Gates, as one of the US military’s greatest strategic thinkers and a valiant capable commander, one who has the skill and experience sets that can not be easily replaced.

With Fallon out of the way Bush and his neocons will very likely manufacture a reason or two as to why the US must strike Iran before Bush’s term of office is up.  Fallon advised patience in dealing with Iran. That was not what the White House wanted to hear.

The Pentagon Channel covers American military news from around the world delivered with a bit of a positive spin to most stories. That is understandable as The Pentagon Channel exists to advance the interests of the US armed forces at home and abroad.

Fortunately, in spite of tough demands put upon them by their civilian masters most people in the US military remain loyal professionals dedicated to the defense of their country. This Pentagon Channel video gives you a good look at recent military related events and service life.

One short section was a bit of a surprise. Under an administration that likes to keep the ultimate cost of war tucked away not to be seen by the public the video has a clip honoring recent fallen warriors who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

My own view is that the Military Channel editors are to be commended for showing all aspects of military life. That adds to the credibility of the news that is reported.  Even the positive spin can be forgiven. After all the troops themselves are usually optimist and positive about their missions.
