Tips on preventing palm tree diseases

One of the more popular trees to plant for people’s yards are palm trees.People like the way their look really enhances their garden.But what a lot of people fail to understand is that palm trees don’t do well in some climates.The main cause of this is because the climate.  Usually colder areas are harder for palm trees to grow.  But you can still grow palm trees if you know how to care for them.  In this article we will go over a couple of things you need to do to care for them.

First of all some palm trees like the foxtail palms in colder climates develop fungal diseases.This is is caused primarily when the roots get too much water.The way that works best in avoiding htis is to plant the tree in warmer weather climates.But if it is something you can’t avoid and you still want to grow it, make sure the soil is drained.That way will work the best to stop this type of disease from happening.

Another type of disease that affects palms such as the coconut palm tree are leaf blight.This is where you get brown or yellow spots right on the leaf.This will start to kill the leaves as it spreads throughout the palm.The most effective way to stop this is to make sure to prune any affected areas.Also something else you can do is give it more iron and apply some fungicide. When you don’t have enough iron it is one reason for this, so add some nutrients.

Finally most palm trees get diseases from overwatering.  Sometimes it is because there is poor drainage so the water gets trapped in the soil.This will be the main culprit of a lot of diseases.  So if you are looking to buy palm trees keep this things in mind.If you make sure to do these things your palm trees will last a long time and look beautiful.It isn’t a pleasant thing to have happen when your palm dies because of diseases.
