Develop A Strategy For Coming Out Gay

Coming out gay may seem like one of the biggest steps you ever have to take in life, but when you actually develop a plan and take small steps to making it happen it isn’t as terrifying as it may seem. The trick is to think not only of what will make you more comfortable, but of what you think will make each person that you love and cherish more comfortable as well.

This is not something that you want to just blurt out at a random moment to a group of people. You have to think about the people who matter most to you and what courtesies you think each of them will appreciate in the end. Remember, coming out gay will not only change your life but it will bring some changes for the others that love you as well.

You essentially have two options. You can get everyone you love the most together in one room and tell them together. Or, you can pull them aside one-on-one and break the news in a more personal manner. Chances are, the best strategy will be a mix of both options.

If you think there are some people in your life who would appreciate being alone with you so they can release emotions or express themselves freely, then you need to give them the courtesy of one-on-one conversation.

You can always have a separate group meeting for those that are more likely to be less emotional or who you are not very intimate with. You can also invite those that you have told individually to this meeting and consider the other talk a pre-warning of what is to come.

The only thing you want to avoid is the old strategy of having one loud mouth relative run around and tell everyone else. This leads to a lot of awkward moments later on as you never know who knows or doesn’t know, and they never know if it is true.

Don’t worry about the entire town knowing just yet. Give those you love the most the respect of an official notification from you, and let the others discover it on their own as you happily carry out your life.
