The attitudes concerning IRA investments have shifted over the past several years, however, as investors have started looking for ways to build real wealth within their IRAs. It is still a good idea to keep your IRA’s tax-advantaged assets from high-risk ventures, but restricting your IRA’s investment activities to mutual funds is no longer considered to be the best strategy. Avoiding all risk leads to minimal returns.

Mutual funds have been around for a long time - since the early 1970’s they have increased in popularity with each year - billions and billions of dollars are now invested in mutual funds, making them one the most popular investment vehicles.
A Popular Category of Mutual Fund - Index Funds
Although mutual funds can be sorted into a number of different categories, one of the most useful types of mutual funds is the index fund. This type of fund is very popular and widely held and for good reason.
Index funds - Mutual Funds that Track Stock Indexes
Index mutual funds are a kind of mutual funds that select a wide variety of stocks and securities with the goal of matching the returns of a well-known stock market index. Some mutual funds are intended to match the Standard and Poors 500, while others are to match the return, which is the up and down of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
Some of the index funds advantages
Two of the many advantages of index funds are featured below. For example, index funds typically have low management fees because they don’t require much work for a manager, so you end up paying less.
The term “active management” means that a person who is in charge of buying and selling stock for a fund is actively involved. A fund is frequently bought and sold under the direction of the manager, which generates costs to go with such transactions.
An expert in picking stocks is necessary to actively manage a fund. An expert manager will command a salary equal to his capability. Conversely, index funds can be managed with the use of technology, placing few demands on management. A computer program is generally used to choose the stocks to match the return of the index, eliminating excess trading on behalf of the fund’s management.

There is a wonderful story that illustrates the advice Jesus gave the disciples when He sent them out to tell people the good news - the news that the Kingdom of God is within. It’s about a conflict between the Wind and the Sun, about which was the most powerful. The Wind thought he was stronger because of his destructive might in tornadoes, hurricanes, sand storms, and electric storms. He pointed out his ability to turn a simple cigarette or lightning strike into a raging forest fire which could level hundreds of thousands of acres of forestland.
There wasn’t a day that went by without the Wind bragging of his strength. The Sun grew weary of the Wind’s arrogance and decided to settle the matter once and for all. He challenged the Wind to a contest.
“Look, you old wind bag,” bragged the Sun, “I’m going to prove you are not as powerful or influential as you believe you are.”
“Oh, you are, are you? Just how do you plan to do that?” taunted the Wind.
“See that old Truth Student down there taking a stroll?”
The Wind whirled himself around to get a better look. The Wind smiled his joy and sent a taunting gust of wind to throw the Truth Student off balance.
“Ha! Ha! Ha! Yes, I observe him. Kinda wimpy isn’t he? Surely you can find a better subject than that pathetic old Truth Seeker!”
The Sun’s voice did not waiver as he leveled his dare. “I dare you to blow the Student’s jacket off his back.”
“Ha! You’re making this much too easy. In a short while,” he boasted, “I will rule Heaven and Earth.”

Scientific research findings have shown that a naturally occuring ingredient in red wine has been found to expand life-expectancy. Namely resveratrol, which is found in the skin of red grapes. Could this be a non-chemical and non-surgical way to gracefully age? Throughout the years the company of resveratrol has not been unknown to citizens of France.
Resveratrol supplements are hastily been manufactured by several pharmaceutical companies. Currently resveratrol studies have only been performed on mice, flies and worms. Worms where shown to have an iincreased life span by 60%, flies by 30% and fish by about 60%.
Dr Rafael de Cabo, from the National Institute of Aging at Harvard Medical School, US said that after six months, resveratrol essentially prevented most of the negative effects of a high calorie diet in mice. In essence the mice who where over eating actually did not damage their life expectancy. They actually increased it.
Resveratrol is not only of interest to the anti aging market. It has also been linked to the combat of diabetes and cancer. Although all research is still in its infancy, natural antioxidants like this may be the only way to effectively treat aging, cancer and diabetes in the future.
When you look at the research in more detail, reservatrol may actually treat a common burden to society. All the mice in the study where fed highly saturated fats. In essence they were obese. It did not damage their life expectancy at all.
In diabetes patients it has been discovered that resveratrol prevents cancerous pancreatic cells from reaching the bodies energy cells or mitochondria, and destroying them. The research was carried out by The University of Rochester. More research has to be carried out on the effect resveratrol has on humans.
