Australian Troops in Iraq for Oil
Australians admit that they ‘are in Iraq for oil’.
For the first time a nation has come clean in an admission that at least one of their major reasons for sending troops to Iraq is to secure crude oil resources.
While Australia is admitting only the obvious let’s give them credit for having the courage to make a clear statement.
No so with the hypocritical wannabee masters of the universe in Washington, D.C. President Bush is still pushing his version of how noble it is to spread democracy and freedom to Iraq and to the rest of the world.
He doesn’t seem to be honest enough to mention that there are about 2,500,000 Iraqis less in Iraq now than at the beginning of the US lead invasion. That is about ten percent of the population that has been either killed or who have fled for their lives to neighboring countries.
I don’t think these people have very much enjoyed the fruits of democracy that George W. Bush has brought to Iraq.
Bravo for Australian Defence Minister Brendan Nelson who said that maintaining “resource security” in the Middle East was a priority for the government in Canberra.
It makes you wonder why the American government thinks that the American people can’t handle the truth. Many Americans already know that Iraq is a Peak Oil War. If Bush would admit the truth perhaps he would gain at least some measure of respect for finally making a statement about Iraq that makes some sense.
While of course it is a selfish altitude, my own opinion is that in a world of finite natural resources, especially oil resources, and sharply increasing demand, the American people would understand the need to secure natural resources as a national priority.
If we are to preserve the American way of life in a world of shortages American troops will likely be needed. For those troops who have died or been wounded in Iraq at least their sacrifice to help Americans maintain and to enjoy a high living standard makes sense and gives purpose to their sacrifice.
There is no honor in getting killed for a pack of lies. It is noble if you die so that those you love and respect, your family, your friends, your fellow citizens, will have a better life.
So the President thinks that we, the American people, can’t handle the truth about Iraq? It’s he and his neocon buddies who can’t tell the truth because in the end they don’t respect the intelligence of the American people.
Thank you Australia for bringing the issue of war for oil out into the open.
